  • Will tooth Jems ruin my teeth?
Not at all! Tooth Jems are bonded to the enamel like an orthodontic bracket without any drilling or pain. The procedure and removal can be compared to the placement and removal of orthodontic brackets. When it is removed the Jem is simply popped off and the tooth will be polished to remove any remaining bonding material.
  • Does the jewel impede brushing?
Nope, the presence of the tooth gem will not make any difference regarding dental hygiene. However, it is recommended not to use an electric toothbrush.
  • Can I still have my teeth cleaned by a dentist/hygienist?
Yes, you can and should still have your teeth cleaned by a professional. Tooth jewelry will not cause a problem for the hygienist cleaning your teeth. The area underneath the jewel is sealed like a filling and will not let in any bacteria. The hygienist can easily polish on top and around the jewel with a soft point.
  • Can tooth gems be removed?
Yes, tooth Jems can be removed but only by a dentist. Attempting to remove tooth gems on your own can result in damage to your tooth.
  • Can I get a tooth gem if I have veneers?
Unfortunately, the bond will only adhere to a natural tooth in good health.
  • What are the aftercare instructions after the tooth Jem is applied?
After the tooth gem is bonded, there is no drinking, eating or smoking for at least an hour. For a long-lasting tooth gem, you must be mindful of biting into certain hard/crunchy foods as it can pop your tooth gem off. Additional aftercare instructions will be discussed in detail at your appointment.
